DesignaKnit Setup Requirements

Before installing DesignaKnit, here’s what you need to know about computers, downloads, screen size, cables, and machine connection.

Before installing DesignaKnit, it helps to know whether your computer and setup will work. The good news is that most Windows laptops and desktops are fine. Here’s the practical version of what you need.

What kind of computer do you need?

DesignaKnit runs on Windows computers. It does not run directly on an iPad or Chromebook.

Mac owners may be able to run DesignaKnit by installing Windows with Parallels or a similar setup.

DesignaKnit supports Windows XP or later, in both 32-bit and 64-bit versions. It does not work with Windows 10S or Windows 11 Home in S Mode.

Basic system requirements

  • Windows computer, not iPad or Chromebook
  • 600 MB free hard drive space
  • Minimum screen size: 800 × 600 pixels
  • Recommended screen size: 1920 × 1080 if possible

Do you need to connect DesignaKnit to your knitting machine?

No. You can use the design, shaping, stitch pattern, and printing features without connecting DesignaKnit to your machine.

Connection is only needed if you want to use Interactive Knitting. Interactive Knitting gives you a visual, row-by-row guide as you knit.

If you do connect a machine, the optional cable plugs into a standard USB Type A port. This does not apply to the HandKnit product level.

How is DesignaKnit delivered?

DesignaKnit is delivered as an internet download only. You do not need a CD or DVD.
