Stitch Symbols VS Memo Numbers VS Yarn Symbols
The Goal
What is a stitch in DesignaKnit?
You may see a series of squares in the workspace that represent stitches. It is critical to understand what those squares represent.
Different "codes" can be assigned to each square. These "codes" (stitch and yarn symbols and memo numbers) send instructions to your knitting machine, printed instructions and interactive knitting to perform different things.
Don't get overwhelmed, take this step by step. Understanding these "codes" will give you the power to instruct DesignaKnit to do EXACTLY what you want.

STITCH SYMBOLS
can control the needles of the machine
MEMO NUMBERS
can be used by specific electronic machines

YARN SYMBOLS
are used for printing knitting charts

| Stitch Symbols |
Stitch Symbols designed for hand knitting can be useful in printed knitting instructions, but are not used in creating punchcards
|
Symbols that are not "smart" symbols for machine knitting display when using interactive knitting.
They can be used as visual triggers to perform a function. For example, cable stitch symbols do not control selecting and de-selecting needles, but DAK can warn you to stop knitting and manually cross a cable. |
| Yarn Symbols |
Yarn symbols are printed with the Stitch Pattern Symbols print format and are not used with punchcards
