The Goal

Even if you don't use any other part of DesignaKnit, Standard Garment Styling is what you need to create knitting patterns.

Pick and choose from basic knitting styles and create custom patterns sized just for you.

Let's walk through all of the options available so you can get the most out of this section of DesignaKnit.

Easier File Retrieval: Thumbnails

Open files with >File > Thumbnails to visually locate your garment shapes.

In addition to the names and other file details shown, the background color of the thumbnails give a hint as to where a file was created or edited.

  • Dark Blue: The file was created in Standard Garment Styling and NOT edited in Original Pattern Drafting
Tan Background: The file was originally created in Original Pattern Drafting
Light Blue: The file was created in Standard Garment Styling and EDITED in Original Pattern Drafting

Remember, if you re-open a file in Standard Garment Styling that was edited in Original Pattern Drafting, any edits made will be lost

File Management

By default when DesignaKnit is installed, the working files (shape files, stitch pattern files) are written to a location similar to this.

It's important that you take time to locate the location of your shape files and stitch pattern files on your computer. If you are having trouble finding the location on your computer, use the File Explorer to search for files named *.stp (stitch patterns) and *.shp (shape files).

DAK 9 Default File Locations

DesignaKnit 9 now allows you to set your own default folder to store your files. Instead of navigating down layers of folders, place your shape files and stitch pattern files somewhere convenient for you.

You have choices:

From the menu >File > Default Folder
Choose a file location that is easy to find. Click >OK

Reset the default back to the DesignaKnit install folder

Continue using the same folder from the previous open or save

Default folders for Standard Garment Styling, Original Pattern Drafting, Stitch Designer and Graphics Studio can be set independently
